Skill Development for "Seeing Through Sculpture"

The goal of the proposed project, "Seeing Through Sculpture" (2015/16) is to enhance current skills as a tactile Sculptor who works  with clay, paints, and mixed media for future sculptural work.

The sole purpose is to gain a higher level of proficiency in hand building that will allow me to create more advanced tactile sculptural forms.  I will have the benefit of a mentorship with Florian Jacot, Fellowship Program with TSA, and the opportunity to liaise with Alex Yeung, an award winning Ceramic Artist and teacher.

The majority of my current works (clay or paintings) include some form of a more tactile component that gives everyone the opportunity to “experience” art as opposed to “viewing.”   However, the “Touch and Sound” tours offered by some galleries will serve as the model for setting up an exhibition of work created for a more inclusive and diverse audience.  An online example of the desired outcome can be found in this link:  https://www.metmuseum.org/blogs/digital-underground/2015/multi sensory-met.

As a founding member of Art Collective CODA, I look forward to having some of the new skills acquired displayed as works-in-progress.

Thanks to Ontario Arts Council Access and Career Development grant, Toronto School of Art, Richard Pierre, Alex Traves, Florian Jacot, SAVAC, United Way, and Linda Montgomery.

Truly grateful to Bath, UK Ceramist Lorna Bode for sharing the glazing tips and techniques that will be used for this project.
